 Dr.Upendra Devkota born on 19 November 1956 at Gorkha,Nepal was a Nepali neurosurgeon and founder of the first neurological trauma unit in Nepal.He studied in Amar Jyoti Janata High School located in Palungtar,Gorkha.There he completed his high school and completed Bachelor of medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1978 from Assam Medical College and worked some years in Bir Hospital.Dr Devkota was the founder of the National Institute of Neurological and Allied Sciences, also known as the Neuro Hospital. The Neuro Hospital is a state of the art Neurological Centre, providing services for patients from all over South Asia.For advanced training in neurosurgery, he went to the UK, where he trained at Atkinson Morley Hospital (now part of St Georges Hospital), Southern General Hospital Glasgow. He returned to Nepal in 1989 and started Neurosurgery in Bir Hospital. He established NINAS in Bansbari, Kathmandu, Nepal.He had also been a Health Minister of then His Majesty government of Nepal.

 ABOUT DEATH

 Dr. Devkota was suffering with Bile Duct Cancer Cholangiocarcinoma which was diagnosed at the King’s College Hospital, UK.[1] Hew was admitted to his own hospital—National Institute of Neurological and Allied Sciences, Bansbari, Kathmandu Nepal. Dr Devkota returned to Nepal as he loved his motherland and his fellow Nepalis, and he hadbeen trying to lay out with his feelings with a series of Mero Mato Mero Chandan. He remembered Bhagavad Gita: ‘It is certain that after life there is death’.He was cremated through electric crematorium on the premises of the Pashupati Aryaghat. Devkota’s wife Dr Madhu Devkota and his daughters Medha, Basudha and Manjari paid last tributes to him amid the presence of friends, relatives and well-wishers before being taken to the cremation machine.Devkota breathed his last at 5:35 pm 18 June 2018 while undergoing treatment for bile duct cancer at Babsbari-based Neuro hospital.
